          The purpose of this research study was to investigate appropriate features concerning hardware requirements and those related to the courseware development of computer – assisted instruction authoring system for secondary school teachers in Bangkok metropolis. Samples consisted of 120 secondary school teachers in Bangkok metropolis. They all received a one day training workshop pertaining to computer – assisted instruction authoring system packages. The questionnaires were used as research instruments. Data were analyzed by frequency by count and percentage.
The findings revealed that the appropriate features of computer assisted instruction authoring system for secondary school teachers are as follows :
          1. Hardware requirements of an appropriate authoring system were 80386 processors running under windows environment, 4 MB RAM, high density disk drive, VGA color monitor with a mouse.
          2. Two sets of program levels are suggested for users to use to meet their needs.
          3. Two features of an authoring system applications were needed. The first feature was operating the system by using menus and toolbox appearing on the monitor without writing any command and the second was operating the system by using menus and toolbox including writing some simple commands for more complicated courseware design.
          4. For courseware development, samples needed the features such as color, font of characters and drawing tools should be adequately provided. Moreover they needed graphic library being available in an appropriate authoring system.
